How does the Terracotta Microgreen Growing Kit work?
The kit comprises the terracotta grower base + lid, a packet of Mustard & Cress microgreen seeds, a packet of Radish Rambo seeds, and 4 discs of our very popular gardener’s wool.
Follow these steps:
-
Place a disc of felt in the base and water it quite well. Wool is hygroscopic, meaning it can hold a surprising amount of water without feeling wet (this is why gardeners love it!). Keep adding water until it feels damp but not soggy.
-
Lightly sprinkle the seeds over the felt. Don’t use them all up, there’s enough in the packet for several goes.
-
Put the lid on so that it squashes the seeds into the felt.
-
Leave it somewhere for 24 hours.
-
Flip the lid, so the seeds aren’t being squashed anymore but they’re still in the dark.
-
Leave it another 24 hours.
-
Take the lid off and peer in expectantly. The seeds should have germinated. Put the lid underneath, so it becomes the base.
-
Leave them somewhere light and water every so often so the felt is damp to touch.
-
Harvest the microgreens once they’re big enough to eat.
Removing plastics from our system, one piece at a time!
Fresh herbs and microgreens are delicious, nutritious, and bring a welcome burst of freshness particularly during the winter months. However, they are delicate, so to keep them intact in supermarkets it’s necessary to package them in plastic. Our microgreen growing kit will deliver a constant supply of microgreens minus the plastic.
Cost effective
Microgreens are expensive to buy and easy to grow. You can get refill packets of seeds – either from us or anyone you like really – and keep on growing. The wool pads can be used several times, and when they are used up, just put them in the compost.
How many harvests can you expect from this microgreen growing kit?
There are 4 wool pads and 2 packets of seeds. Each packet of seeds should do 4 sowings. So, you should get 4 harvests out of the kit. Then you can simply replace the felt and seeds and keep on growing.
For the ultimate gift, why not include a pair of very beautiful, forged Sheffield scissors?
