Draughts can come from all sorts of sources and knowing how to detect draughts is key in making your home more eco-friendly. They can be caused by something as big as an open chimney, which is why we created our Chimney Sheep® draught excluder, or as small as a window frame of floorboard. Draughts coming through small gaps in windows, doors, floorboards and even skirting boards can be hard to detect but just as important to draught-proof as bigger draught sources. The Smoke Pencil is an ingenious gadget for pinpointing air leaks and tracking down hard-to-find gaps. When the trigger is pressed, a plume of smoke-like substance is released. This is actually generated from a harmless glycerine-like fluid, giving off a slightly sweet smell. When the trigger is released, the “smoke” stops, making it highly controllable. The Smoke Pencil Pro Kit comes with attachments that enable a very fine stream of smoke to be created which means the tiniest of air leaks can be pinpointed. 

There are some suggestions that a lit match aid in draught-detection. Whilst that is true it doesn’t last as long and isn’t as safe, particularly in larger or commercial buildings. The Smoke Pencil is safe to walk around a room or property with, without causing any fire hazards.
