A Chimney Sheep® is a highly efficient, removable chimney draught excluder made from felted Herdwick sheep’s wool. It is the only chimney draught excluder with a BBA certificate and industry reassurance. Made at our factory in Cumbria using UK wool, our original and best-selling product ensures your home is heated efficiently by keeping the heat in and the cold draughts out.

A Chimney Sheep® will:

  • Reduce energy bills
  • Reduce household carbon output
  • Reduce wind noise from the chimney
  • Stop wildlife and debris falling into the hearth
  • Work in the summer to keep a house cool
  • Reduce air pollution entering the home

Each Chimney Sheep® comes with a 6″ handle and 6″ extension rod, giving 12″ of reach altogether.

Operation Wool

We love wool! Since 2018, we’ve bought the Herdwick wool we use to make our Chimney Sheep® directly from Cumbrian farmers. To help support our local farming network, we ensure that we pay a fair price for the wool which is usually more than the market price.

We haven’t been fleeced

Recommended by our Chimney Sweep. “Easier to fit than a balloon”
And yes, a doddle to assembled and insert up our chimney. We have a large open fireplace and a lot of heat can go up, when we don’t light a fire. Oil fired central heating is expensive, and we have a wood burner at the other end of our lounge. Should have bought a Sheep years ago!

Cosy outlooks

I am preparing for winter with my chimney sweep. My son has now fitted it
and hope it is going to keep my feet and legs free from draughts, therefore warmer in the coming months.

Although this stopped draughts it unfortunately attracted carpet moths. We only discovered when we removed the chimney sheep in spring and saw it crawling with moths. By this the time we realised our carpet was also infested and despite our best efforts to contain is now bare in places and will need to be replaced. Would therefore not recommend.

The Chimney Sheep have been treated using Ionic Protect for the last 7 years, and we haven't had a single issue with moths over that time. Prior to that they were treated with borax which relies on the wool moth eating a little of it in order to perish. It sounds like you must have an older Chimney Sheep. It wouldn't have attracted the moths in, but is a victim of them in the same way that your carpet is.
