We love wildlife at Chimney Sheep, and we hate toxic chemicals. However, wildlife in the wrong place can be problematic, so we have a range of products that help steer the wildlife to where it should be. As far as possible, natural pest control means encouraging other nature to eat it. So gardening for wildlife that will eat slugs, for example, or encouraging bats to eat moths.
Our woollen chimney draught excluders are 100% moth proof, treated with Ionic Protect plasma treatment. It’s genius, it’s a chemical free moth pest control, and it lasts the lifetime of the product.
However, it is applied as part of the manufacturing process, and can’t be done retrospectively. Our journey to find out more about moth management introduced me to a range of products to deal with moths in house. Conventional insecticide is very harmful, as it kills all species, not just the target pests. It remains lethal and can get into the environment and waterways. Our Pistal Professional Insecticide is lethal to insects and must be used carefully, but degrades after a few days so it is much more nature friendly.
Another natural pest control I was delighted to discover was the Grazers range. This is derived from a plant supplement, but it was noticed that animals steered clear of plants that had been treated with it. From this happy observation, a range of products that effectively deter slugs, beetles, deer, rabbits and pigeons was developed.
We also have a range of slug and snail deterring products. We can never claim that these will be 100% effective, but with the addition of our garlic tea recipe, they do a good job of making it difficult for them.
