Now this is real wool! Straight from the sheep, unwashed, just as it was worn in the fields. Still coated in lanolin, natural extras  from the field and even a little sheep poo, this wool is very sheepy indeed.  It's a natural pest deterrent - deer, slugs and snails hate it. Plus it readily composts releasing tonnes of nitrogen and other nutrients.

We sourced this wool during Operation Wool. We purchase the wool directly from farmers, but last year we ended up with a surplus so this lot is ideal for using in the garden. We can't say no to wool that will end up being burned so we've also got white wool and mixed / black wool - choose your preference in the drop-down menu.

Each large bag contains 10kg of greasy wool.

Buy Land Plant Trees

At the core of Chimney Sheep is our Community Interest Company, Buy Land Plant Trees (BLPT). For every purchase you make with us, 20% of the profit facilitates the planting of trees on agriculturally poor land in Cumbria.

We set up BLPT in 2019 as a ‘boots on the ground’ tree planting initiative. The company is run by us and the tree planting is done by us. We do it to help you and us to reduce our impact on the planet. The trees we plant reduce CO2 output as well as contribute to the reduction of flooding and the creation of habitats for wildlife.

BLPT isn’t a tick box exercise nor a distant and detached carbon offset company. In fact, this is as much part of our business as the products we sell and is an integral part of our ethos. We are big believers in the phrase ‘think globally, act locally’ and want to make a genuine difference

Ok my father and his father's father and way back were farmer's but when my mother passed when i was just 2yrs old my dad fostered me away however i am nearly 50 and i have been drawn to all things natural and this is my first time ever buying raw wool as i want to make pillows with it, but as soon as it was delivered and i opened the huge box well i ran for the hills lol 😆 i was/still am a little scared recently i reluctantly took a pair of scissors to it and cut and placed a piece in the washing machine just to see what would happen put the machine on for of course 599999 million hours 😆 just to be rid of the smell that little blob got dried after 99 million hours in the UK sun 😶‍🌫️and will be sent tomorrow morning to my dad's sister in Bournemouth lol 😆 I'm learning more about how to wash the wool ie in a bucket duhh!!! 🪣 please go easy on me at least I'm trying you guys 😆

no more gastropods!

Raw wool is finally keeping the slimy ones off my winter veg. I've tried everything non-chemical previously - copper rings and tape, wool pellets from the garden centre etc, but this really works! Good price too compared to other sources.

Can't fault it!

I work in a community garden with many raised beds within polytunnels. This winter we've attempted winter greens, and have been unable to outcompete the slugs and snails, who decimate things like kale & mizuna over and over. I decided ENOUGH!! and that it was time to try something different. I'm delighted to say that this was not only a task my volunteers enjoyed attempting (for the science of it all), but that so far not a mollusc has dared cross over my barriers. Love that this is organic, love that it won't harm hedgehogs and wildlife, love that this will break down on its own. Worth buying for sure, and I've still got absolute heaps for the future!

I am very happy with wool

It is different colors and textures and a lot of wool. I have no intention to put it into the garden. I washed it and will use it indoors.
