Sheep's wool is a wonderful natural material! It has many useful properties. It's fantastically versatile and has lots of different applications.

Each one of these boxes of scoured raw natural sheep's wool is exactly what it says on the tin - just pure wool - it has simply been collected from the farmers and washed.

So it may even have some little pieces of plant substance left behind - this is because it's a raw, natural product that hasn't been processed yet!

Herdwick wool would be a great gift for any gardener, felter or crafty person in your life - you can use it in so many different ways!

Here are just a few suggestions:

  • sound insulation
  • heat insulation
  • mulch
  • instead of moss in hanging baskets
  • for birds to line nests with
  • as filler for cushions and door draught excluders

Just note if you're using it around the home - this is just washed wool.  Unlike our other wool products, it hasn't been treated against moths.

Lovely wool

I bought this to fill a cushion for my dog’s bed. Great amount of wool, fab smell, perfect. I absolutely love all your products. Also left some outside for the nesting blackbirds and bluetits - they love it, too!

I bought the wrong product!

I meant to buy roving for felting. I thought I could card it, but the fleece was too "bitty". However, I will use it around plants to deter slugs. A nice, clean, natural product, safely delivered. I would happily buy from this company again.

Contributing to our peatland restoration project

We have been using hay bales together with Herdwick wool in jute bags to control water flow through a deep ditch that runs along the edge of our peatland. We buy the washed wool so we won't be importing anything unwanted into the ecology. The wool arrives soon after we order, neatly boxed. We're already seeing greater biodiversity of plants and animals in the ditch and more water flowing across the peat instead of draining away from it.
