Supports & protects wildlife

Have you got lots of ground-feeding birds in your garden that don’t use your traditional bird feeders?  But are you worried if you scatter seeds on the ground, that big greedy birds like pigeons and magpies will eat it all and scare away all the ground feeders?

It is quite a common problem, but we have a solution! Our Ground Bird Feeder Sanctuary is designed to be placed on the ground to ensure small, ground-feeding birds such as robins, song thrushes, wrens and house sparrows can access food.

Just place your usual birdseed in the feeder tray and leave it in your garden for them to feast on. The gaps in the metal cage are big enough to let those lovely little ground feeders access the food safely all year round, keeping out those bigger greedy birds, cats and any other predators.

Made from steel. Dimensions: H 30cm x W 50cm

Buy Land Plant Trees

At the core of Chimney Sheep is our Community Interest Company, Buy Land Plant Trees (BLPT). For every purchase you make with us, 20% of the profit facilitates the planting of trees on agriculturally poor land in Cumbria.

We set up BLPT in 2019 as a ‘boots on the ground’ tree planting initiative. The company is run by us and the tree planting is done by us. We do it to help you and us to reduce our impact on the planet. The trees we plant reduce CO2 output as well as contribute to the reduction of flooding and the creation of habitats for wildlife.

BLPT isn’t a tick box exercise nor a distant and detached carbon offset company. In fact, this is as much part of our business as the products we sell and is an integral part of our ethos. We are big believers in the phrase ‘think globally, act locally’ and want to make a genuine difference

Disappointed

What a disappointment. For some reason i thought his would stop the pesky squirrels from pinching all the bird food, but no, they can get through the gaps as easy as pie, what a waste of money. Seen one better than this elsewhere at a fraction of the price that the squirrels for sure won't get through, but alas i can't afford it now. The thing itself is made of first class material and cannot be faulted, just beware, it is not squirrel proof as i have found out, much to my cost.

Not used yet

Not sure my blackbirds will get through the gaps yet, I must been feeding them too much

Well built but needed a modification

The cage is nicely built but large birds such as pigeons could easily get their heads in and drag the feeding tray out, as they have done.
I needed to ties string around the bars in layers to stop them getting their heads in. Maybe a modification for future models. I would have given 5 stars but given the idea is to stop large birds eating the food I can only give 3

Very Large Birds Defeated

Birds like Ravens, Crows and Pigeons can't access the food but unfortunately Starlings can! As they are always in flocks too, they quickly demolish all the food and the blackbirds and sparrows etc. don't get a look in! Disappointing in that respect.

It is sturdily built and just what I was looking for. Unfortunately although it keeps wood pigeons out, it does not deter the town pigeons who must be more slimly built. We found four inside it once, and gave them a bad fright when they struggled to get out. We have put wires round it now, two horizonal rows bound round the existing vertical ribs, and this works. The ground birds can get in, the pigeons are frustrated. But nothing will keep the squirrels out.
