These Bread wraps measure a generous 46cm x 60cm - large enough to comfortably fit a standard loaf of bread. Whether it's your freshly cooled sourdough, your lovely herby focaccia or your plant powered banana bread our beeswax wrap made from natural cotton and bee-friendly beeswax will help stop your loaves from becoming prematurely stale.
It moulds neatly around your bread providing a breathable barrier to keep things fresh without sealing them in too tightly. Beeswax has been used for centuries and modern science tells us why- beeswax has naturally anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties.
If you seal bread in plastic you trap moisture, so the crust goes soft and rubbery and mould sets in early. If you leave it in paper it breathes, but it dries out within a day. A beeswax wrap is the solution! The waxed cotton is water-resistant but still breathable — a bit like a rind or a skin — so it slows moisture loss without letting the loaf sweat. The crumb stays soft, the crust stays crisp, and the bread keeps its life a day or two longer.

It’s a useful size that can be used to comfortably cover a large bowl, platter, um – anything you might otherwise be tempted to use cling-film for, but better as it is wider than standard cling film making it not just an eco-friendly swap but actually something that functions better!
Where are the bread wraps made?
Our beeswax wraps are made by Under The Mango Tree, an Indian Social Enterprise. The beeswax is bought at fair a price, and the wraps themselves are made by a women group earning a proper wage.
The honeycomb is harvested from wild Apis dorsata, the “rock bee”. According to Kipling the most dangerous animal in the jungle! Under the Mango Tree ensure bee harvesters just take a corner of the comb, so there is enough left for the bees. These are different from European honey bees. Instead of making the comb inside a structure, such as a hollow tree, wall cavity or hive, they make free hanging combs. In order for the combs to retain their structural integrity, they actually produce a stronger and more flexible wax. This means the wax in our wax wraps performs more efficiently: it is highly flexible and remains impregnated in the fabric better.
