An Insect Hotel is a nesting and hibernation aid for insects - used by nature-loving gardeners to promote diversity in their back yards.
They are geared towards beneficial insects and pollinators, such as bumblebees, wild bees, honey bees, butterflies, ladybirds and beetles. As well as other predatory insects that help to control unwanted pests in your garden or allotment.

Where should I put my insect hotel?
The best location for an insect hotel is in a spot that has access to lots of sun but is also protected from the weather. This ensures that the insects inside stay warm but are protected against the wind and rain. A good location will also help prevent damage to the materials inside.
There should also be an abundance of wild-flowers, trees and fauna surrounding the hotel, to ensure the insects have sufficient food.

What are the benefits of insect hotels?
- Encouraging biodiversity - Insect hotels encourage the presence of beneficial insects. This increases the population of insects in your garden, and so its biodiversity.
- Pest control - Beneficial insects include predators that target pests such as fleas and greenflies. If you have a lot of predatory insects in your garden you won't need to use pesticides - so you will reduce the amount of chemicals released into the environment.
