Why is this recycled plastic washing up bowl such a great product?
Not only is this recycled plastic washing up bowl useful, practical, brilliant quality and rather smart looking, but it is also made of 100% recycled plastic which makes it so much more sustainable (which as you know, we are rather passionate about) by reducing plastic pollution that can be harmful to our environment and our oceans.
Many household products, like washing up bowls, buckets, wastepaper bins (to name a few) are made of plastic and more often than not, virgin plastic. We have found this first-hand and have really struggled to find everyday items made with recycled materials that were affordable and of a good quality.
When we found and tried this…. we knew we had to add it to our shop! It is better for the environment, works just as well as your usual plastic washing up bowl and is no more expensive than its ‘non-eco’ equivalent. Winning!
What sorts of recycled items have made up this recycled plastic washing up bowl?
All sorts of old household products like old plastic deck chairs, toothbrushes, plastic plant pots, plastic kitchen utensils, old CD cases, plastic bottles, old high chairs, lego – the list goes on!
Why is it important to use recycled plastic?
We are all pretty well-versed on the importance of recycling plastic and reducing our use of single-use plastics. It reduces the volume of plastic waste that goes into landfill, reduces the amount of plastic that gets blown into the ocean en route to landfill sites, reduces plastic pollution, it conserves resources and reduces the amount of energy used producing items from virgin plastic (to name a few reasons!).
But once we recycle plastic, what do we do? Well, think about it. If we dutifully recycle our plastic but continue to use virgin plastics, then what’s the point of recycling it in the first place? If we don’t buy products made of recycled plastic the plastic we continue to recycle will soon pile up into more unwanted waste or get burned.
So instead, we should try and buy products made with recycled plastic to make all our dutiful recycling worth it! Plastic is a hardy, versatile material so can be repurposed from its original state into all sorts of other things when it's recycled. Doing this is called ‘closing the loop’ (the loop being the three arrows on the recycling logo) and helps to create a more circular economy with less waste. Our recycled aluminium foil uses the same principle! You can read more about plastic and how we should be using it in one of our blog posts, here.
What other products are in the recycled range?
Oh, we’ve got lots and we will be adding more! As we said above, we found it really difficult to find useful, everyday products made of recycled materials so our aim is to build our selection so that you can get lots of brilliant recycled goodies in one place.

This 9.5-litre rectangle washing up bowl is made from 100% recycled household plastic and we LOVE it! Not only is it a sustainable product but it is practical too! It is hardy, easily wiped clean, has raised feet to ensure water can drain away in the sink and is deep so you can ensure that all your dishes get a good soaking in those suds. It is a sure-fire way to whizz your way through some washing up!

We have a 60-day return policy, which means you have 60 days after receiving your item to return it.
To be eligible for a return, your item must be in the same, re-sellable condition that you received it, unused, with tags, and in its original packaging. You’ll also need the receipt or proof of purchase.
The postage cost for the return will need to be covered by yourself (please keep the proof of postage until your return has been processed).
At the core of Chimney Sheep is our Community Interest Company, Buy Land Plant Trees (BLPT). For every purchase you make with us, 20% of the profit facilitates the planting of trees on agriculturally poor land in Cumbria.
We set up BLPT in 2019 as a ‘boots on the ground’ tree planting initiative. The company is run by us and the tree planting is done by us. We do it to help you and us to reduce our impact on the planet. The trees we plant reduce CO2 output as well as contribute to the reduction of flooding and the creation of habitats for wildlife.
BLPT isn’t a tick box exercise nor a distant and detached carbon offset company. In fact, this is as much part of our business as the products we sell and is an integral part of our ethos. We are big believers in the phrase ‘think globally, act locally’ and want to make a genuine difference

Very happy with the company, the service and to have found a bowl made of recycled plastic, I will make a mini garden pond with the old one. Reason for four stars and not five is the bowl I was sent was a different one with no handles. It would have been better if the delivery note art least acknowledged that, I particularly wanted the handles.
