How to make filter coffee using a coffee dripper
Put the coffee filter, either paper or fabric, into the dripper.
Put ground coffee into the bottom of the cone. The amount you put in depends on the coffee grounds you use and how strong you like it, but a rough guide is 15g (a heaped tablespoonful) per person.
Pour very hot but not boiling water over the grounds until they are wet at the bottom of the cone.
Leave the coffee to “bloom” for 30-45 seconds, then gently pour the rest of the hot water over it in a steady circular motion, starting at the centre and moving outwards.
Leave to finish dripping through and enjoy.
Another way of making coffee using a coffee dripper
This is how I like to make coffee because I like it really strong espresso strength then topped up with hot milk, and this is the best way of doing it. It’s also good for making several coffees at a time:
Get a jug, warm it, and put in about 30g of coffee per person.
Pour in hot but not boiling water, about 100ml per person.
Put the wire dripper over a mug with a coffee filter in it, and pour the contents of the jug into the filter.
Leave to drip for a few minutes.
This will make a small but very strong and very clean tasting shot of coffee. You can then add hot milk for a latte or hot water for an Americano. Or just have a very small very strong very delicious coffee.
When you’ve finished with the coffee dripper, simply rinse it, dry it and collapse it down, tucking the wire “feet” into the outer spring so it stays flat. Then it can live in the bag until it’s needed again.
