Tell me about this sustainable recycled paper loo roll
Our 100% recycled toilet rolls are made in the UK from paper recycled in the UK. You’ll be delighted to know that it’s not made of recycled loo roll but instead a mix of consumer and trade waste paper using chlorine-free processing.
Although this loo roll is made of recycled paper, it definitely doesn’t feel like recycled paper. It’s a nice quality and thickness and does the job it’s intended for.
This product is accredited with Ethical Consumer's Best Buy label. The label is awarded after Ethical Consumer has looked in detail at the environmental and ethical record of both the product and company supplying it.
What is this eco-friendly toilet paper made from?
This eco-friendly toilet tissue is made from 100% recycled paper fibres sourced exclusively from the UK. It's produced from a mix of consumer and trade waste (think scrap paper from homes, schools and offices) using chlorine-free processing.
Why is it important to make the switch from normal toilet paper to recycled toilet paper?
It is utterly pointless to grow a perfectly good tree for 80 years and then cut it down to make toilet paper. Just because it is Forest Stewardship Council certified and grown in a sustainable forest and more trees will be planted to replace it and all of that, doesn’t make it OK. We need to grow trees to harvest for timber products, of course. It does seem immoral that we import as much timber as we do. Only 13% of our land in the UK has woodland. We rely on imports from overseas, but there’s plenty of space for us to grow our own timber. And before anyone starts the trees vs food conversation, there is a lot of land that is no good for growing food that is very good for growing trees. So, trees are precious things, and the land that is use for growing them is in demand.
Combine that with the fact that we recycle 80% of paper in the UK it is the utterly logical thing to make toilet paper out of recycled paper. Otherwise, what is the point in putting all that effort into recycling? We need to ensure we are utilising that recycled paper and what better way than recycled loo rolls!
How does this recycled paper toilet roll compare to bamboo toilet roll?
Bamboo toilet roll does seem like a great sustainable toilet roll idea on the surface but when you dig a little deeper, you’ll find that most of the bamboo used is grown on the other side of the world. It is then made into bamboo toilet rolls and shipped over to the UK which very quickly makes bamboo loo rolls not all that eco-friendly. Our recycled paper toilet roll, on the hand, is made in the UK from paper recycled in the UK with no unnecessary packaging. No shipping in from abroad and it utilises recycled paper in this country. It’s about as eco as you can get without going into the woods and using leaves or moss.

At the core of Chimney Sheep is our Community Interest Company, Buy Land Plant Trees (BLPT). For every purchase you make with us, 20% of the profit facilitates the planting of trees on agriculturally poor land in Cumbria.
We set up BLPT in 2019 as a ‘boots on the ground’ tree planting initiative. The company is run by us and the tree planting is done by us. We do it to help you and us to reduce our impact on the planet. The trees we plant reduce CO2 output as well as contribute to the reduction of flooding and the creation of habitats for wildlife.
BLPT isn’t a tick box exercise nor a distant and detached carbon offset company. In fact, this is as much part of our business as the products we sell and is an integral part of our ethos. We are big believers in the phrase ‘think globally, act locally’ and want to make a genuine difference
A Chimney Sheep® draught excluder is a brilliant tool for any property with an open chimney. But don’t just take our word for it...

The wool insoles are superb! I’ve bought them for my hiking boots as my feet sweat which leads to blisters. I’m currently breaking the insoles in doing shorter walks, but already my feet are sweating less. Since I’ve spent good money on Merino wool base layers, buying these has been perfect, much better than the ‘wool’ insoles that are just wool fluff stuck to a rubber insole. I’m getting ready for a 100m Tyne to Tweed coast walk so will update after that. Love them!
I bought this as I wanted a non-plastic weed suppressant to use under stones and bark and this is ideal as it can be bought by the metre rather than having to buy far more than I need (though it does make it more expensive per metre). It is easy to use and I'm really pleased that it is a natural material with no plastic. I'm wondering how long it will last before it needs replacing, but for now, I'm really pleased with my purchase.
I ordered two of the 10kg...in error! There's a massive amount of wool in each bag and, to my mind, it's quite clean. It's very thick and has a high amount of lanolin in it, a good sign.
I placed it around my runner beans and French climbing beans. The wool provides support when it's windy. Round the tomatoes, the courgettes and...the potatoes. They thrive on it.
Important: the will deters slugs etc, but my advice is that it's essential to keep the wool moist. Not sodden, as the wool is superb at preventing the soil drying out.
Well worth it.
Delivery box was a bit battered on arrival so feared for the pots, but the sheep's wool had kept them safe. Brilliant non plastic option to keep seedlings watered without wasting water and the wool works to keep slugs at bay.
Bought these as the fluffy inside lining of my slippers had worn down to the rubber! I hate waste and didn’t want to throw them away as they were in otherwise good condition, so I bought these and popped them in and now I have warm and comfy insides to my slippers again - Hurrah!! Slipper life extended and waste reduced. Very glad to have found this company 😊.
