Produced in Yorkshire, our natural sheep wool garden felt is one of our most popular products. It is made with a thick, dense layer of wool and a layer of jute carrier material. Many other wool felts use a plastic carrier material which can leave microplastics in the soil.

The combination of the sheep’s wool and the jute means that our garden felt is:

  • The perfect mulch for no-dig gardening
  • Insulation against cold and heat
  • Textured and woolly which will deter slugs and snails
  • Hygroscopic which means that it absorbs moisture but releases it slowly, so your plants won’t need watering as often
  • Full of nitrogen, potassium and phosphate which naturally occurs in the wool and helps with strong, healthy plant growth
  • An excellent growing medium – roots love burrowing their way into it
  • 100% biodegradable and compostable within about a year so completely and utterly environmentally friendly.

The felt is 1.8m wide and approx. 10mm thick.

Please note, we are now making these rolls wider and shorter than previously, so we can pack them into boxes and make shipping more efficient. Previously the rolls were 1.4m x 15m. Now they are 1.8m x 10m.

This is a no brainer

I’ve just starting my first garden from scratch. It started as an organic cattle grazing paddock. Cows are great at eating grass but not weeds especially not thistles. I’ve used several different types of cover from cardboard, rolls of paper, composted bark. Sheep’s wool garden felt is by far the most effective. I’ve lined my raised beds and have used it in areas I’m going to plant once the top soil come. I love the fact that I’m using a natural substance and I know sheep farmers are often find it hard to make a profit with their wool. It’s win, win

Perfect for our no-dig plot Much easier than trying to align sheets of carboard.

Now the annual prepping of my veg boxes relies on laying down the wool fleece. After that there’s no more weeding until the following year!

Perfect ‘ground cover’ base to start a wildflower bed on old lawn

Made the decision to change a small area of lawn (poor quality clay soil) into a wildflower bed. Used this wool matting to cover and exclude the existing grass and weeds ! A thin layer of soil, then cast the seeds and then top with a thin layer of neutral compost.

Love it but as do the cat, who adores her new outdoor bed (obviously in raptures with odor of sheep) plus the local wood pigeons who deem it excellent nest material! Wouldn't put me off though as easily remedied by scattering soil on the discs.
