What does radiator foil do?
Radiators give off heat in two directions - into your room, and into the wall behind them. On external walls, especially solid or single-skin walls, a surprising amount of heat can be lost to the outside.
Radiator reflective foil is fitted behind the radiator to reflect this wasted heat back into the room, helping your heating work more efficiently and improving comfort.
Should all radiators be fitted with radiator reflective foil?
Radiator foil is most effective behind radiators fitted to external walls, where heat loss is greatest. Internal walls are not heat-loss walls, so fitting reflectors there is unlikely to bring noticeable savings. Party walls between properties usually don't need reflectors either, unless the property is empty, or your neighbours like a cold house!
Most radiator types can benefit from reflective foil, as long as there's space behind the radiator to fit it.
How much difference do radiator reflectors make?
On external solid walls that have no insulation, having radiator reflectors can save over £4 per radiator per year. It really does pay to have radiator reflectors! If you have 5 radiators on exposed walls in your property, you could be looking at savings of about £20 a year. Even in a well insulated property, you would save around £5 a year.
How do you fit Radiator Reflective Foil?
- Cut the foil to the size required to fit behind the radiator.
- Make 1cm fold along the top of the sheet and slide at least two Radklips over the fold.
- Rolls the sheet around the Radklips at least once to secure.
- Position the Radklips on the wall brackets with equal distance between the wall, the sheet, and the radiator.

Why we chose Radflek, and why you should too
Radflek Radiator Reflectors are made in the UK, in Bristol, by a family-run business focused on reducing wasted heat in homes. Raw materials are sourced from within Europe to help keep transport distances and carbon impact to a minimum.
Radflek radiator foil has been independently tested, with energy savings verified by the Building Research Establishment (BRE), and were previously approved for UK energy efficiency schemes. Their multi-layer construction reflects heat back into the room more effectively than standard foil, foam-backed or bubble reflectors, while remaining robust, stable, and resistant to tearing or degradation over time.
Designed for long-term use, Radflek is tested to maintain performance for many years, with no maintenance beyond an occasional dust. Installation is straightforward and non-invasive - the reflectors simply hang from the existing radiator brackets, with no need to remove the radiator or fix anything to the wall.
By reducing heat loss into external walls, Radflek helps radiators work more efficiently, improving comfort and making better use of the heat you're already paying for - a simple, practical way to cut waste and keep warmth in the room where it belongs.
