As these enamel egg cups are made from steel, they're fully recyclable at the end of their long, long life - the enamel coating doesn't impact it's ability to be turned into scrap metal. Unbelievably, the use of scrap steel saves up to 74% of the energy needed to make steel from virgin materials, so we should all try and recycle as much as we can as well as using products made of recycled materials such as those in our Go Outside range.
Enamel on steel is hard and strong but like all good ceramic materials, it may chip if handled roughly or dropped. If this happens, don't panic! The enamel coated egg cups are still safe to use as the steel will naturally oxidise - they'll just have a bit more character!
Even though it's usually safe to throw enamelware into the dishwasher, we would recommend only handwashing these enamel egg cups.

As we are probably all aware, plastics take an awful lot of energy to create, aren’t easy to dispose of and are generally not so great for the environment. Most of us now dutifully recycle most of our plastic waste, one way to ‘close the loop’ is to create a demand for fully recycled plastic. However, we understand there are concerns over where our plastic recycling goes, we’ve created a plastic-free environmentally-friendly enamel dinner set. The ultimate alternative to plastic with its endurance strength making it last throughout all camping and travel adventures. This sustainable alternative replaces the use and disposal of many sets of paper and plastic camping dishes over the years!
Why have you created the enamel dishware range?
Chimney Sheep HQ is based just on the edge of the Lake District. That means we are lucky enough to enjoy the benefits of the outdoors rather a lot and we love it! Lots of our colleagues love walking, camping, picnicking, and exploring. We’ve created our Community Interest Company Buy Land Plant Trees to further commit to preserving nature in this beautiful location. How can you not when we live in such a beautiful part of the world?! It has made us realise though that there aren’t many durable plastic-free camping dishware options, to use when exploring these natural habitats.
Instead, there are either single-use plastic disposable plates, single-use paper disposable plates or traditional melamine picnicware sets (which is an artificial compound made under intense heat and is not recyclable nor particularly eco-friendly). So, we’ve created a plastic-free option, with a whole range of enamelware camping dishes to choose from. You can check them out here.

At the core of Chimney Sheep is our Community Interest Company, Buy Land Plant Trees (BLPT). For every purchase you make with us, 20% of the profit facilitates the planting of trees on agriculturally poor land in Cumbria.
We set up BLPT in 2019 as a ‘boots on the ground’ tree planting initiative. The company is run by us and the tree planting is done by us. We do it to help you and us to reduce our impact on the planet. The trees we plant reduce CO2 output as well as contribute to the reduction of flooding and the creation of habitats for wildlife.
BLPT isn’t a tick box exercise nor a distant and detached carbon offset company. In fact, this is as much part of our business as the products we sell and is an integral part of our ethos. We are big believers in the phrase ‘think globally, act locally’ and want to make a genuine difference
