Dogs love wool! Over the years, here at Chimney Sheep we've heard tale after tale of how cheeky pups have claimed Chimney Sheep chimney draught excluders as their own, and decided to sit, lie or even make a bed out of them. So, we decided to introduce something just for them - something much more thick and comfy. A luxury wool dog bed! Not only did we want to produce something of exceptional quality for our furry best friends, we wanted to make something that was truly sustainable too. That's why every single one of our natural sheep wool dog beds is made using only the highest quality natural materials, utilising handcrafting and low energy making methods, as well as small batch, low waste production too - we're ensuring that this luxe doggy mattress is well and truly environmentally friendly. The most beautiful sustainable choice.
Entirely handmade in our factory close to the Lake District, our natural wool dog beds consist of a wonderful removable organic cotton cover, which can simply be machine washed on a 30 degree gentle wash. These beautiful organic cotton covers are then filled to the brim with chunky, thick Herdwick wool felt pads to create a delightfully bouncy, comfy cost dog bed. Like all of our other Herdwick wool products, all of the wool for these beds has been sourced directly from the farmers themselves, they're paid a fair price for their sheep wool and we collect it ourselves. Each bed contains more Herdwick wool felt than there is in three of our Chimney Sheep chimney draught excluders (that's a whole lot of wool!) . They're filled to the brim - making them not only comfy, but chunky, weighty and a real touch of luxury for your dog.
Every piece of these high quality wool filled dog mats is carefully crafted. A member of the Chimney Sheep team hand makes every single component, from hand trimming the felt that fills these heavyweight dog beds, to sizing, sewing and fitting the beautiful organic cotton covers. There's zero plastic content in these stylish dog beds, they're free from artificial dyes, synthetics, glues and solvents - the perfect sustainable sprawling spot for your dog.
We've carefully chosen a range of delightful designs in neutral tones that we feel will suit a range of styles and decors.
Our chunky dog beds are available in the following patterns:
Grey with Black Flowers
Grey with White Flowers
Blue with Dark Blue Flowers
Olive
Each bed measures approximately : 100cm x 72cm and is more than 4cm thick!
How will this wool dog bed help me lower my pup's carbon pawprint?
>We've designed these high-quality dog beds with the environment at the forefront. They contain absolutely no plastic, any dye used in the production of the organic cotton covers is natural, and every component is free from glues and solvents. The products are made here in our factory by hand, utilising only low energy methods of production. We're ensuring that we produce only in small batches and creating minimal waste. Every aspect of these luxury wool dog beds is made using only the highest quality natural, renewable materials - locally sourced where possible, like our Herdwick sheep wool felt sourced directly from the farmers. Meaning this pawesome dog bed has a lovely low carbon footprint. As every single piece of this pet bed is made of natural materials, the bed is completely compostable at end of life (although it's got many many years to live). This luxury dog bed really is the most beautiful sustainable choice for your pooch - perfect if you're keeping an eye on their carbon pawprint!
Why should I choose a luxury wool dog bed for my pup?
Stylish, comfortable and chunky each individual wool dog bed is packed to the brim with locally sourced natural Herdwick sheep wool.
Not only is sheep wool incredibly comfortable, it's naturally antibacterial, hypoallergenic and absorbs odours fantastically. Sheep wool is great for pets with sensitive skin, as it's not a known allergen. Wool is also a great natural insulator, meaning your pet will be well protected against even the chilliest of tile floors and in the summer the wool's amazing breathability will help your pup regulate their own temperature keeping them cool too.
These luxury wool dog beds are easy care, like any natural sheep wool the wool felt centre takes a long long time to accumulate a smell, it's antibacterial properties mean it won't harbour bacteria and the beautiful organic cotton covers are easy to remove, meaning they can simply be machine washed on a 30 degree gentle wash.
By purchasing a British wool product you'll also be supporting British wool farmers - a fantastic thought!
How can I make more eco-conscious choices for my dog?
Making more environmentally friendly choices when it comes to your dog is something we feel every owner should paws for thought on. The environmental impact of owning a dog as a pet is significant. From pet apparel such as beds, collars and lead to their diet which often consist primarily of meat. Dogs can leave quite the mark (or paw print) on the environment. Most pet products these days are made of plastic, and aren't designed to last - with the rise in demand for pet products such as 'stylish' collars, leads and beds - pet fast fashion is starting to become somewhat of a reality (though we'd like to add, not our dog beds - they're designed to be used and washed again and again - lasting for years!). But, despite being made of plastic many of these products aren't readily recyclable at end of life - often because they're mixed with a variety of solvents and glues too. This means tonnes and tonnes of non-biodegradable pet products are going to landfill - making up part of the 27 million tonnes of plastic that ends up in landfill each year.
But, as dog owners you can help change that. You can make swaps to more ethical, natural, eco-friendly pet products. It could be simple swaps, such as sourcing a more locally produced food for your pup or swapping to more sustainable collars, leads and toys. Why not take a peek at our range of natural products for pets? We've tonnes of like-for-like swaps for you take a peek at, and perhaps you'll find some things that inspire you to make some planet friendly changes when it comes to your pup.

At the core of Chimney Sheep is our Community Interest Company, Buy Land Plant Trees (BLPT). For every purchase you make with us, 20% of the profit facilitates the planting of trees on agriculturally poor land in Cumbria.
We set up BLPT in 2019 as a ‘boots on the ground’ tree planting initiative. The company is run by us and the tree planting is done by us. We do it to help you and us to reduce our impact on the planet. The trees we plant reduce CO2 output as well as contribute to the reduction of flooding and the creation of habitats for wildlife.
BLPT isn’t a tick box exercise nor a distant and detached carbon offset company. In fact, this is as much part of our business as the products we sell and is an integral part of our ethos. We are big believers in the phrase ‘think globally, act locally’ and want to make a genuine difference
