Made of 100% sheep wool felted onto a jute hessian carrier material, our naturally antibacterial, comfy hoof pads are an excellent choice when it comes to hoof-care. Perfect for protection, as part of a poultice or just to increase the comfort of an existing boot or cover – these natural wool hoof pads are just fantastic.

Wool has a range of natural properties that benefit our equine friends.

Benefits of wool hoof pads over synthetic versions are:

  • Wool is environmentally-friendly & sustainable
  • Wool is naturally antibacterial
  • The wool moulds to the frog, providing support and comfort
  • Wool is naturally breathable and hygroscopic, wicking away gunge and helping with the healing process.
  • Wool is surprisingly durable and long-lasting
  • Wool hoof pads tend not to twist or slip
  • The wool pads are reusable
  • The wool pads are compostable
  • The wool pads are anti static

How to use:

Simply insert the pad into the boot, like an insole. For heavier horses or additional padding, place two layers in the boot. They can be added to as the pad squashes down.

The pads can be cleaned in warm soapy water, then left flat to dry. If they’ve been used on an infected hoof then please dispose of them. They can be composted or made into a mulch mat for the garden.

Each pack contains: two pads, each approx. 15mm thick.

Buy Land Plant Trees

At the core of Chimney Sheep is our Community Interest Company, Buy Land Plant Trees (BLPT). For every purchase you make with us, 20% of the profit facilitates the planting of trees on agriculturally poor land in Cumbria.

We set up BLPT in 2019 as a ‘boots on the ground’ tree planting initiative. The company is run by us and the tree planting is done by us. We do it to help you and us to reduce our impact on the planet. The trees we plant reduce CO2 output as well as contribute to the reduction of flooding and the creation of habitats for wildlife.

BLPT isn’t a tick box exercise nor a distant and detached carbon offset company. In fact, this is as much part of our business as the products we sell and is an integral part of our ethos. We are big believers in the phrase ‘think globally, act locally’ and want to make a genuine difference

Sadly not up to more than one rode in hoof boots

Love the idea of these but feel they need a tweak , they need to be a bit more robust , they only lasted one ride inside my scoot boots , I think they need to be a bit denser , maybe like felt ? real shame as I ordered two pairs to go inside my hoof boots but don’t think they will last very long .

Uggs for horses!

My TB ex-racer has been struggling with lameness caused we think by bruising and a bit of arthritis. His shoes are off and he's now in boots and pads. I tried some wool packing from deliveries to soften the pads which seemed to help him, but would disintegrate after a couple of days. I then invested in these Snug Hoof pads (15cm) and they are making a significant difference. He has boots on for about 6 hours a day in the field and we're still using the same ones each day. They do get wet but dry out enough for the next day. I'd recommend them for barefoot transitioning and also for treating bruising or abscesses in the foot.
